Imagine making your own movie. Think of that long, long list of credits at the end. Can there be a more exciting team effort than this? Can there be a more interesting, fun project?

Delegates will work as production teams with broadcast quality equipment; digital cameras, tripods, storyboards and professional editing suites. They will write the script, take on the roles of director, editor, cameraman, location scouts, producer, etc. They will be the creators and the actors, making and starring in their very own movie!

It is, in our experience, that this project will be immensely popular with your people and every single one of them will have important and challenging tasks to accomplish. There are no 'passengers' here. They will talk about it for ages afterwards. This is class! A sophisticated, high quality, high profile project that will elevate your conference and elevate you in the eyes of your team for having chosen it for them to do.

At the end of Movie Maker, teams have the opportunity of viewing their movies at "An Evening at the Oscars". Oscars are awarded in many different categories, and this is done in true Hollywood style.  A great advantage of this project is the tangible, visible and valuable product at the end (the movie itself). You take it home with you as a reminder of what has been and can be achieved, and this can be of use to the organisation in many ways.

What the team will experience?


The team will experience what it is like to work together in a fantastically organised and aesthetic way to produce a highly desired product. The tremendous kick everyone involved will get out of this experience and the learning points it creates, will give everyone a fantastic head start to teaming more closely and effectively than ever before!
 
The Movie Maker Experience will be real in every sense of the word - real broadcast quality cameras, real edit suites, real movies at the end. And the teams make it all. We are there as a resource, but you do it all, even the filming, and the editing. In a matter of hours! You will be astounded at the result.  At the end of the Movie Maker Experience, teams have the opportunity of viewing their very own movies up on the big screen for the first time during an evening at the Oscars. Oscars are awarded in many different categories done in true Hollywood style.
 

More information on the Process

Process Logistics:

The group will be briefed and divided into teams of + 10 delegates each.  Each of the teams will have the opportunity to make their own 60 - 90 second movie from beginning to end.
 
They will conceptualise, script, storyboard, find locations, source props, act, do their own make-up, film, direct, act, produce and edit!
 
Each team will have their own set of equipment:
  • Editing suite
  • Touch screen camera
  • Tripod
  • Storyboard
  • Clapper board
From our side we will have two types of facilitators working with the group:
  1. Process facilitators: they focus on team dynamics and ensure that the purpose of the day is achieved. In other words, that the right message is being delivered through the movies.
     
  2. Technical facilitators: they assist with how to create a storyboard, then use a video camera in order to capture the best possible footage and finally how to operate the editing software in order to put together a great movie.

Process:

The process is divided into four phases:
  1. Pre-Production
    • Movie Maker Experience introductory video
    • Brief
    • Delegates are put into teams (the composition of these is left to your discretion)
    • Allocation of key hats:
      Executive Producer, Director, Editor, Cameraman, Actors, Actresses, Sound Engineers, Location Scout, Make up, Costumes, Prop Masters, Clapperboard loaders, the works...
    • The production houses conceptualise their story boards, including script, visual representation, special effects, and music and audio.
       
  2. Production
    • Lights, Camera, Action!
    • The camera people are lining up their angles
    • Actors and actresses are rehearsing their lines
    • Directors are working with cameramen, actors and actresses to create that perfect scene
    • Producers are managing the production house's time as well as making sure that everyone is involved and contributing to the masterpiece
    • Make-up artists are applying their trade
    • Editors are editing scenes as they are being completed
       
  3. Post-Production
    • The final edit!
    • Production houses ensure that their message which was created in the Pre-Production phase is carried through right into the Post-Production phase
    • Last minute voice-overs or re-takes are done
    • Music and or Special Effects are included
    • The movies are in the can and submitted to the Academy for judging
    • Teams break and prepare for the evening
       
  4. A night at the Oscars
    • Red carpet
    • Media interviews
    • Movies are viewed on the big screen, we MC the event
    • Oscars are awarded in 12 categories
    • Acceptance speeches are made

Please note that the costing would be a minimum fee of R20 000.00 excl. VAT, based on inclusions and exclusions stated above. Please note that the cost per delegate for this service is R1 000.00 a head excl. VAT. Please note the cost per km of travel is R5.00 per km. Please include this in the "get a quote" example with the following a general set of terms:

  • Refreshments and meals for our facilitators
  • Accommodation for our facilitators if required
  • Flights and car rental if required
  • Travel costs @ R5.00 / km

Why Use Movie Maker?


Firstly, Movie Maker is used as a platform through which something is brought to life. Taking your objectives into account, the brief would be along the lines of: "Show us what Visible, Defining and World Class means to you."
 
Secondly, the process gets people behind an idea and creates buy-in from your staff. The movies are their creative masterpieces.
 
Thirdly, the process is fun. This is vital for the actual teambuilding process: everyone is having fun while getting behind an initiative, and of course a natural by-product is that people get to know each other much better.
 
Fourthly, the process is effective and applicable for people from all cultures, physical abilities, both genders and personality types because there are plenty of roles in front of the camera (extroverted) and behind the camera (introverted). Everyone will have a specific role and will have gotten involved and contributed to the movie.
 
Lastly, long after the team build is over, the movies can still be usefully viewed 3, 6 or even 12 months later. This gives the process legs and allows people the opportunity to ask themselves whether they have achieved their goals or if more work is still needed to be done. The movies are also often used as a reference when new members join the team to showcase the company's culture, values and goals.
